Dumpling festival aka Poet Festival, Duanwu Festival and Dragon Boat Festival. It is a Chinese traditional festival which falls on the fifth day of the fifth lunar month which is June 16. It commemorates the patriotism of Qu Yuan, a Chinese poet and statesman who was accused of treason and banished. He drowned himself in the Miluo River after catching wind of the Qin troops conquering his homeland, Chu. Because of this, the people threw rice dumplings into the river inorder that the creatures might feast on the rice rather than Qu’s body. Fisherman also search for him on boat rapidly, but his body still cannot be found. This tragedy become the beginning of this festival.

Qu’s last poem:
Many a heavy sigh I have in my despair,
Grieving that I was born in such an unlucky time.
I yoked a team of jade dragons to a phoenix chariot,
And waited for the wind to come,
to sour up on my journey.
This is my post for jingle’s Thursday rally for poet.
Zongzi (Rice Dumpling):
A symbol of tradition and a memoir
At once it was an affliction
But now it was a commemoration
At once it was sorrow
But now it is a joy to all
As bamboo leaves were used as wrapping
In a shape of pyramid without any mold for shaping
Grains of white glutinous rice were use as filling
A slice of meat, some dried mushroom and a golden egg yoke for enticing.
Families were gathered to enjoy
Remembrance and appreciation were given
As they feast upon it without any alloy
where it is pass on from generation unto generation.
